Rejecting advice from New York investors to fill the beautiful canyon with an explosion of lucrative hotels and condominiums, Redford saw his newly acquired land as an ideal locale for environmental conservation, artistic experimentation, and yes – some downhill racing. Deer Valley’s rating has never dropped lower than third overall in the past nine years. It also ranked No. 1 in 2006.

Resort president and general manager Bob Wheaton says a third consecutive top ranking wasn’t expected, given competition from other fancy ski resorts around the U.S. and Canada. Wheaton says the Deer Valley resort continues to invest mostly in staff to keep service levels high.
