Nothing unusual is noticeable. She&#8217;s about the same adult weight as usual and is physically stronger than ever.</p>
<p><img class="size-medium wp-image-1086 alignright" title="hoglezoo14" src="http://directoryofsaltlakecity.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2009/05/hoglezoo14-300x205.jpg" alt="hoglezoo14" width="300" height="205" />But sometime during July or August, Christie will deliver her first baby, probably weighing 180 pounds to 250 pounds — the first elephant to be born at Hogle Zoo in more than 80 years. Princess Alice gave birth to the first Utah elephant when the zoo was at Liberty Park back in 1918.<br />
The process of naming the coming new baby hasn&#8217;t been discussed yet, and zoo staff won&#8217;t know the gender of the elephant until it is born. Ultrasounds have been used on Christie, but they can only show a portion of the baby and gender is very hard to see in elephants anyway.</p>
<p>If the new baby is a female, it will likely remain at Hogle Zoo with its mother. That&#8217;s because elephants tend to remain with their mothers for life, while males eventually go out on their own.</p>
<p><img class="size-full wp-image-1084 alignleft" title="hoglezoo8" src="http://directoryofsaltlakecity.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2009/05/hoglezoo8.jpg" alt="hoglezoo8" width="150" height="113" />The zoo&#8217;s other elephant is HyDari, a 49-year-old female who is currently the oldest elephant in North America.</p>
<p>Check out our other post to see  <a href="http://directoryofsaltlakecity.com/blog/?p=340" target="_blank">a video HyDari celebrate her 48th birthday </a>last year.</p>

<p>When the ‘80’s began, it was struggling along as the Human Ensemble Company in the tiny Glass Factory Theatre space at Arrow Press Square for a couple of seasons.</p>
<p><img class="size-full wp-image-954 alignright" title="slac3" src="http://directoryofsaltlakecity.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2009/05/slac3.jpg" alt="slac3" width="130" height="115" />Its current (and most likely permanent) home is the 100-year-old LDS 19th Ward Meeting House, also known as the Marmalade Hill Center, where it enjoys a strong subscription season base and ranks as one of the Mountain West&#8217;s most important regional theater companies.</p>
<p>The main theater seats 180 and occupies a space built as a multipurpose room within one of the earliest churches in Salt Lake City by the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints.</p>
<p>The Salt Lake Acting Company presents dramas and musicals, with live accompaniment. During SATURDAY&#8217;S VOYEUR, the theatre&#8217;s annual summer musical that parodies the local politics and society of Salt Lake City and Utah, audience members sit around the edge of the stage and enjoy wine and picnic lunches.</p>
<p><img class="size-thumbnail wp-image-956 alignleft" title="slacting" src="http://directoryofsaltlakecity.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2009/05/slacting-150x150.jpg" alt="slacting" width="150" height="150" /><img class="size-thumbnail wp-image-959 alignleft" title="slacting2" src="http://directoryofsaltlakecity.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2009/05/slacting2-150x150.jpg" alt="slacting2" width="150" height="150" />This acting company keeps you rolling in the aisles with laughter or on the edge of your seat with suspense.</p>
<p> This theatre is a grand historic 1890s structure with a comfortable green room filled with tables and chairs.A concession area with refreshments is on the same floor nearby. There is a theatre on each level. The upper level seats 180 people and the main level seats 100. <a href="http://www.saltlakeactingcompany.org/" target="_blank">Check the SLAC website for upcoming shows</a>.</p>

<p><img class="size-full wp-image-699 alignright" title="clark_planetarium8" src="http://directoryofsaltlakecity.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2009/05/clark_planetarium8.jpg" alt="clark_planetarium8" width="111" height="85" /><img class="size-full wp-image-676 alignleft" title="clark_planetarium" src="http://directoryofsaltlakecity.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2009/05/clark_planetarium.jpg" alt="clark_planetarium" width="250" height="187" />The Clark Planetarium is situated within the Gateway District at the intersection of 400 West and 100 South   in downtown Salt Lake City, Utah.</p>
<p>The Clark Planetarium opened in April 2003, replacing the historic Hansen Planetarium under a grant from the Clark Foundation in cooperation with Salt Lake County.</p>
<p>This state-of-the-art planetarium presents laser light shows and big-screen movies in Utah&#8217;s only 3-D IMAX theater. It also contains a variety of interactive exhibits ranging from a display about the names of the planets to a Foucault pendulum, plus a rotating relief globe. Allow up to 3 hours for your visit.</p>
<p>The Clark Planetarium features 15,000 square feet of free exhibits including the newly installed &#8220;Science on a Sphere,&#8221; a computer animation globe by NOAA. Also unique is &#8220;Newton’s Daydream,&#8221; the most ambitious audio-kinetic sculpture ever created by artist George Rhoads.</p>
<p><img class="size-full wp-image-679 alignright" title="clark_planetarium3" src="http://directoryofsaltlakecity.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2009/05/clark_planetarium3.jpg" alt="clark_planetarium3" width="150" height="142" /><img class="size-full wp-image-683 alignleft" title="clark_planetarium5" src="http://directoryofsaltlakecity.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2009/05/clark_planetarium5.jpg" alt="clark_planetarium5" width="130" height="87" />Other popular exhibits include a Foucault pendulum, Earth Globe, Meteorites, Telescope displays, and updating video from the Hubble Space Telescope and NASA TV. The Clark Planetarium is also one of the few institutions to have an authentic moon rock sample on permanent loan from NASA. This rock was obtained from the Apollo 15 mission and is displayed in a special exhibit showing the Apollo moon landings and video footage of the astronauts collecting the displayed sample rock. New exhibits are added on a regular basis, including a rocketry display by ATK Launch Systems of Utah and a Moon Gravity Simulator.</p>
<p><img class="size-full wp-image-695 alignleft" title="clark_planetarium10" src="http://directoryofsaltlakecity.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2009/05/clark_planetarium10.jpg" alt="clark_planetarium10" width="146" height="110" />The Hansen Dome Theater features a 55-foot perforated aluminum dome and can seat up to 205 people. The theater is designed with a Digistar 3 planetarium system, and features individual interactive button controls for each seat, which can be used to enhance the viewer experience. With six projectors creating seamless 3D video and a 21-speaker surround sound system, the Hansen Dome Theater offers space themed show on a variety of subjects.</p>
<p>The Clark Planetarium is open all year long with the exception of Thanksgiving and Christmas Day. The planetarium opens at 10:00 AM and closes after the last show of the evening, but does close early on Christmas Eve. Occasionally the planetarium may be closed for private events.</p>
<p><img class="size-full wp-image-677 alignright" title="clark_planetarium1" src="http://directoryofsaltlakecity.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2009/05/clark_planetarium1.jpg" alt="clark_planetarium1" width="150" height="113" /><a href="http://directoryofsaltlakecity.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2009/05/clark_planetarium9.jpg"><img class="size-full wp-image-691 alignleft" title="clark_planetarium9" src="http://directoryofsaltlakecity.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2009/05/clark_planetarium9.jpg" alt="clark_planetarium9" width="146" height="108" /></a>Admission is free, and there are all sorts of physics and other science demonstrations. Kids of all ages can walk on a lunar scape, can be weathermen, and can find out how much they would weigh on different planets. The gift shop is also large and definitely worth a look.</p>
<p>There are several theaters at the planetarium. Some show IMAX movies which are all educational and still very entertaining. Some are also 3-D. Definitely go for a matinee, which is much cheaper. At night, there are laser <a href="http://directoryofsaltlakecity.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2009/05/clark_planetarium.jpg"></a>shows set to music.</p>
<p><a href="http://directoryofsaltlakecity.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2009/05/clark_planetarium1.jpg"></a><a href="http://directoryofsaltlakecity.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2009/05/clark_planetarium2.jpg"><img class="size-full wp-image-678 alignleft" title="clark_planetarium2" src="http://directoryofsaltlakecity.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2009/05/clark_planetarium2.jpg" alt="clark_planetarium2" width="135" height="101" /></a> To learn more about the Clark Planetarium in Salt Lake City <a href="http://www.clarkplanetarium.org/" target="_blank">Click Here.</a></p>
