Hogle Zoo has another new arrival this summer— a 120-pound, 6-foot-2 male giraffe was born at Hogle Zoo this past Thursday.
The first-time parents are Kipenzi, 6-year-old female, and Riley, a 6-year-old male.
With a large spread of fruit forming a “cake” and the letters “49″ spelled out in grapes, Dari celebrated her birthday at Hogle Zoo this morning as the oldest African elephant in any North American Zoo. Dari came to Hogle zoo back in 1967, straight from Africa, so she’s been at the zoo for some 42 years
Looking closely at 7,900-pound Christie, one of Hogle Zoo’s two elephants, you’d never know she was 18 months pregnant. But sometime during July or August, Christie will deliver her first baby, probably weighing 180 pounds to 250 pounds — the first elephant to be born at Hogle Zoo in more than 80 years.
The Hogle Zoo is a zoo located in Salt Lake City, Utah. It is the state’s largest zoo, containing a variety of animals from different ecosystems. The zoo lies at the mouth of Emigration Canyon across from “This Is The Place” Heritage Park.
